43% of People Would Give Up Beer For A Smartphone

Android not Beer

Google and Ipsos OTX conducted a survey to find out where the smartphone market stands, and the results reveal a lot about how we all use our smartphones.  In short, we love them, we use them to find information and when we find what we're looking for, we act on it.  All of that is good news for Google.

Google Mobile Ads Blog laid out a plethora of smartphone statistics almost exclusively showing how well mobile advertising works. Incidentally, this may be good news for Google's mobile ad platform AdMob.  Tomorrow, Google will host a webinar and present the full findings of the report, but here are some of the highlights:

Local Search is Ubiquitious

·         71% of smartphone users search because of an ad they've seen

·         82% of smartphone users notice mobile ads

·         74% of smartphone shoppers make a purchase as a result of using their phone to help shop

·         88% of those who look for local information take action within one day

·         77% have contacted a business by phone (61%) or visiting in person (59%)

It's an impressive result and shows that if a business can engage with their customers, there's a good reason to believe the efforts will yield real sales.  And considering that quite a few businesses have yet to adopt a mobile friendly site, this may be a good time to revisit that decision.  But, then again, if you're reading this, you probably already have.
