Facebook freaks out after Google+ launch, constantly refreshes news feed on Android app

Facebook is buggy in Version 1.6 of its Android app

This is probably a coincidence, but Facebook's Android app update has a bug that continuously refreshes the news feed and drains the battery.  This has absolutely nothing to do with Google announcing Google+ yesterday but the timing is, at the very least, humorous.

Phandroid has tested the app on a few phones, and received a tip that this bug has been causing issues for many users.  Besides the large drain on battery life, this constant refresh is also making it difficult to have a useable news feed.  It's possible that this can be corrected by uninstalling and re-installing the app, but that doesn't always fix all the bugs.

There also seems to be some internal linking issues in this current release, version 1.6, which would send users to the mobile browser for some posts instead of staying with the app.  This used to happen with previous versions of the Facebook app, but had been corrected in a later revision.  Unfortunately, it looks like that annoying bug found its way back into the code.

And, as if that wasn't enough, the app's notifications aren't working on all devices.  I'm not trying to harp on Facebook, but this is a bad week to frustrate their Google-friendly users.
