Google tips hat to Steve Jobs

The fact that iPhone and Android smartphones have gone head to head over a multibillion dollar market for the past couple of years shouldn't be news to anyone reading this blog. Nor should the fact that their respective mobile operating systems have challenged each other to develop and grow come as a surprise to anyone.
However despite the obvious competition in business -- the Android OS has gained the top spot over iOS while Apple has reached pole position in smartphone sales -- Google still knows who came first, and made public acknowledgment of their respect for Apple's late chairman on their main page.
Anyone visiting the main page for Google.com at the time of this posting will see a slight addition to the minimalist design. That is a small line below the search bar that reads: Steve Jobs, 1955 - 2011.
His name is linked, and the link goes straight to the Apple website. Clicking further will bring you to a farewell page that encourages visitors to submit thoughts, memories and condolences to rememberingsteve@apple.com.
Steve Jobs passed away yesterday at the relatively young age of 56, leaving behind a body of work that few would dream of building in any amount of time. Apple has produced so many devices that changed, if not defined, their respective industries that it is now next to impossible to imagine a world without them.
Google's small tip of the hat is a testament to the respect they held for the visionary that the world said goodbye to just yesterday.
