Confirmed: White iPhone Coming This Spring

Phil Schiller, Apple Senior Vice President for Worldwide Marketing, took to his Twitter account this morning to officially confirm the white iPhone, set for release this spring. What he didn’t confirm is whether or not it would be a white current generation iPhone 4, or the next iteration of the device expected to be unveiled in this summer.

Schiller replied to an Apple user enquiring about a release date for the elusive white iPhone saying:

Many rumors of possible release dates for the white iPhone have come and gone since the launch of the iPhone 4. Apple even had images of the white model on their website, before promptly removing them days after the initial release of the device.  Rumors for the reason behind the delays ranged from paint quality and matching issues to simply an Apple marketing ploy to sell as many black iPhone 4s as possible before releasing the white model in a limited run. An Apple spokesperson never officially confirmed any of these rumors, with the last official announcement only hinting at a spring 2011 release, in line with Schillers announcement earlier today. However, with the iPad 2 release on March 11, 2011, available in both white and black models, it would appear whatever manufacturing issue the company was facing has since been resolved.

Its unlikely Schiller would have slipped up and confirmed the device if the company didn’t already have official release plans. The question is, will anyone be willing to purchase a white iPhone 4 with the iPhone 5 product launch right around the corner? It wouldn’t be surprising if Apple plans to use the white iPhone 4 as incentive for consumers to continuing purchasing the device even after its successor is released later this year.
