If you're in England, Scotland or Wales, GridPoint GB uses GPS to provide your current Ordnance Survey (OS) grid reference, and illustrates how to use this to locate yourself on an OS map.

Imagine:

- You're out and about
- You have a paper OS map of the area
- You don't have mobile phone reception

GridPoint GB is useful when all three of these things are true. It makes it easy to locate yourself without a mobile signal -- when the Maps app shows your position relative only to a featureless grey-and-white checkerboard.

GridPoint GB currently works only in Great Britain (not the UK or British Isles, since it excludes Northern Ireland and EIRE). Since it relies on GPS, it's not very useful on the original iPhone (2G), iPods or non-3G iPads.
