How to factory reset Android phones or tablets
If you're selling or handing down your Android phone, you'll definitely want to do a full factory reset and delete all data from your Android phone. When you factory reset an Android phone, all data is wiped out. Contacts, emails, logins and passwords, browsing history, installed apps and more are scrubbed out so you (or the person you sold / gave your phone to) can start fresh. Check out our how to factory reset Android video tutorial or keep reading for a simple step-by-step.
Performing an Android factory reset
- Go to the Settings.
- In Settings, go to Privacy.
- Tap Factory data reset.
- Tap Reset phone
Wiping your phone can take anywhere from several seconds to several minutes depending on how much data you have on your phone. When the phone reboots, you'll be presented with a fresh, new Android phone clear of any and all personal data.
