The .pyv file extension is a Microsoft PlayReady video file. It is their new form of DRM. Microsoft PlayReady protects content by encrypting data files, so you won't be able to convert them. The way it works, a license is granted to a single client (like your media player) or a domain (your home network). Therefore, it won't function on any other clients (or domains, depending on the licence). Each license contains rights and restrictions that define exactly how the content may be used and under what conditions. For example, a music file license may enable a "right to play" but restrict the "right to export to CD."

You should be able to play the PYV file on any computer or device that supports it. DRM Fusion Agent, which enables management and playback of DRM protected content (including PlayReady), is already pre-integrated with several application frameworks and applications on many platforms including Android and iOS.

Additionally, per Microsoft's FAQ:
The PlayReady PC Software Development Kit runs on the Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 operating systems. The PlayReady Server Software Development Kit runs on the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems (only the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 is supported).

In closing, I'd like to mention that there are several DRM Removal software titles listed at Tucows.com but upon first glance, I wasn't able to find anything that said it would work with PYV files. Feel free to look for yourself, and if you find something that works, will you come back and share with us?

I'm having the same issue and it's very frustrating! I used to own 2 Galaxy Tabs, the 7 and 10 inch. I decided to sell them to offset the cost of my Macbook Pro. I saved the Media Hub Movies and Shows I purchased on an External Hard Drive and have not been able to see them since. As a matter of fact I haven't even found a way to sign into the Media Hub center from my computer to see if there were any other movies or shows I might have missed. If there is a way to sign in from the computer and download purchased files, please let me know. I know I can't see the movies, but I at least want to have them stored incase there is a break through with the conversion.

Yeah I bought 2 movies on my Galaxy S 2 epic 4G touch sprint using Samsung Media Hub, I managed to move those files from my phone to my computer which was difficult because they don't even want you to know where the files are on the phone and using the regular Phone USB to computer did not help either. I used an app called SyncMe Wireless by BVAISSOFT which lets you move files back and forth from phone to computer and vise versa, wirelessly. Which had located the files and let me transfer them to my computer. Now I solved that problem another one came up. The files are .Pyv a form of DRM, Microsoft play ready. Well I can only open these files on my phone and not my computer. I can't find a single program that will remove the DRM or convert the pyv files. I have already spent 15 hours looking. If anyone finds any please let us know. Like all technology I'm sure some kind of program will come out in the near future. Darn encrypted files. DRM is evil, I bought the Movies I should be able to watch them or move them to my computer so I can at least back them up. crazy... date is 2/26/2012
