Why does Facebook make my browser stop responding?

Hello. I was wondering if anyone knows why Facebook makes my browser, IE (7, I think) slow to a crawl and then stop responding. I don't play any of the games and I've tried to disable any apps that might have been put on my page. I've even "unliked" sights that I thought might be slowing me down with videos that put up. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
