How an I open these files?

Additional Details:

I received some files with extensions avi.--1, avi.--2, etc. UnRAR will not open them, nor will any of the other such programs I have. Anyone know what will open these? (I'm on a Mac, which probably makes a difference.) Thank you. PB

AVI files are movies. You can play them with a video player on Windows machines, but I'm not sure about Mac. I do know that there are free AVI to QuickTime converters for Mac, maybe something like this will come in handy for you:
