What free antivirus program do you recommend? What about a program to "clean" a computer?

Okay, I'll be the first to admit, I am not a techie! In fact, I am technologically challenged. But, I have a PC and a laptop and I need to know how best to protect them from pesky viruses, etc. What free antivirus program do you recommend? I read about a bunch of them and find the choice intimidating. Also, my PC tends to run slow and makes a funny "pop" sound every once in a while(Like when you stick your finger in your mouth and pull on your cheek as you take the finger out), what do I do to clean my system and make it run faster? Hello Lisa, I am not new to computers, but no expert either. I reccommend Avast which is a antivirus program and also to do a system clean, I'd reccomend Windows System Care which I provide the links below. If you'd like to search them you can also do that ... type "Avast" and "Windows System Care" w/ out the " ".
