There are thousands of radio stations available to listeners for free on the Internet. Many AM/FM radio stations around the globe simulcast online as well. Wi-Fi radios can pick up those stations, and because they have built in speakers, they allow users to access that content without the need for a PC. The downside is that they require a Wi-Fi signal and unfortunately, Wi-Fi networks have limited range.

Thank you Sreed for your answer, it has made more clear my understanding about these wifi radios. According to the manufacturers it could access more than 15K stations but they never have mentioned about limited ranges. I have another question: Could you suggest a brand of portable wifi radio. At this moment I am staying in Shanghai for a week and I would be checking what is available in the shops. So far I could only order through the Internet! Sreed, thank you again. Paquicamus
