Susan,
I'm inclined to agree. We have a Rand-McNally Atlas that we take on trips. I don't see the point of navigating around a 3" screen when I can use an over-sized map and plan out my route. Also, when I'm on vacation I become disconnected. To me it isn't a vacation if I'm lugging a laptop or constantly checking my smartphone. Smartphones are an incredible tool as are many online applications, but I think they have their place. When I go camping do not expect me to answer emails. :)

There are so many iPhone travel apps out there today it can be confusing. Call me old-fashioned, but in my opinion there is nothing more effective than using a good travel guide. Before a trip it is always best to check out an online travel guide like http://www.twitter.com/dozentravel. There are now so many iPhone travel apps on the market that people will stop looking at the scenery and enjoying their vacation, instead they'll be using their smartphone to find out info, text, check emails, flight news and whatever else. We managed quite well without travel apps and iphones.

Thanks so much. I enjoy doing them. My favorite huh? Well, the one I've used the most is the BlackBerry which is a good, solid, dependable device. I've had like 5 different models over the years and it just keeps getting better. Yes, the iPhone is "cool" but in a kind of cutesy way. Very innovative, but also restrictive.
So, I may surprise some by saying that my favorite is quickly becoming the Droid. The Verizon Droid in general and the Android platform in particular. The phone itself has SO many cool options. Features and abilities that aren't available on the BlackBerry or the iPhone. The Android platform is open and developers are taking advantage of that by creating really innovative applications. So, if I have to pick one, I'll say Android.
I think the iPhone will remain very popular especially with people who tend to be less technical. I think the BlackBerry is going to continue to be the pick for businesses for quite some time. And I see the Android phones really gaining ground on both of them because it does offer so many cool features and because the platform encourages innovation.

Dear Doc,
I really find your shows so informative and always so down-to-earth. In these first 3 mobile shows you cover android, BB, and iphone. So I have to ask - Which is your favorite?
Sincerely - Bob Dahl
