#57 | 3:00 |

Apple's latest mouse, the Magic Mouse is a study in surface simplicity. It's not so much a

one-button mouse

as it is one big button that is also a mouse. However, the

multitouch surface

of the

Magic Mouse

is where the magic really happens.

Show Notes

Magic Mouse
$69 or included with current iMac purchases

What it is: A re-imagining of the way a mouse should work with but one button and a

multitouch

surface

- Smooth design is simple and attractive. A great match with the iMac look.

- Uses 2 AA batteries (included).

- Connects via Bluetooth in a simple pairing process.

- Laser tracking to work on a variety of surfaces.

- Does not incorporate any of the new tracking optical technologies that allow PC mice to function on just about any surface, including granite and glass.

- Ambidextrous mouse; can be set up to function for lefties or righties easily.

- Requires Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 for

multitouch

functionality. However, it connects out of the box to function as a simple mouse.

- Multi-touch surface allows for right-clicking, one-finger scrolling, forward and back navigation in iTunes, iPhoto and other apps as well as in the most recent Safari and Firefox browsers.

- "Momentum scrolling" for Snow Leopard users.

- A significant improvement in oft unchanged mouse hardware.

- Not PC compatible.
