The
Dane-Elec ZPEN
receiver uses low frequency sound to track the position of a the ZPEN as you move it across the page. Your writing is converted into .ELI files that can then be saved off as PDFs or in a variety of image formats. PC users can use software included on the receiver to convert handwritten notes into computer editable text. While it's not perfect, there are some great concepts at work.Download this episode now

Dane-Elec ZPEN
~$100
www.danedigital.com/6-Zpen/
What it is: A clip-on notebook receiver that tracks a special pen to convert writing into computer readable files
- May require some adjustment to writing style on the part of the user.
- ZPEN receiver has 1GB of internal storage for creating notes and / or transporting other files.
- Does not require special note paper to work; just clip the receiver to the top of a notebook page up to A4 size and write.
- Pen&Ink Viewer software is required to read notes from the device.
- Pen&Ink Viewer software is rudimentary and the only option available to Mac or Linux users. Handwriting recognition and other features of the ZPEN are PC-only.
- We'd much rather see the ZPEN record notes natively into PDF as well as categorize them into folders by date recorded.
- Blocks multiple USB ports but includes a small extension cable to remedy this.
Includes:
- ZPEN
- Clip-on notebook receiver
- Button cell batteries (in pen)
- USB extension cable
