Android has taken the number one position in the market, outpacing Apple and its iPhone and BlackBerry. This is thanks in large part to the fact that so many manufacturers have adopted Android on their smartphones making for more handset options for Android devotees.

Five reasons to switch to Android

1 - The Android Market doesn't censor apps
The Android Market has a much more liberal policy than Apple when it comes to apps in its store. Unlike Apple who will pull the plug on a developer, often without giving any reason why, Android is much more transparent in its dealings with developers.
That's good. What's bad though is that some stuff can slip through. Recently, the Android Market was besieged by malware.

2 - Wide variety of handset choices
If you get an iPhone, you get an iPhone. No options for QWERTY keyboards, no options for less expensive handsets. You get an iPhone. With Android, many manufacturers are on board and there's a wide range of hardware choices available.

3 - Android supports Flash
Apple famously closed its doors to Flash. Android has opened its arms.

4 - Android is an open platform
If you want to reverse engineer the iPhone OS, better have a lawyer handy. Android is open and tinkering is encouraged. You don't have to be a hacker for this to be advantageous; you can just sit on the sidelines and enjoy the fruits of a tinkerer's labor.

5 - True multitasking on Android
Android offers real, honest multi-tasking. iPhone offer multitasking, but it's a bit of a trick. You're not really getting true multitasking. You're getting multi-parking.
