Fujifilm REAL 3D W1 camera video review

#189 | 3:26 |

Gadget TV

Friday December 24, 2010
By effectively cramming two 10 MP cameras into one larger than usual camera body, the Fujifilm REAL 3D W1 does a surprisingly good job of rendering 3D images and short video clips in HD. The lenses are slightly offset from each other and are what enables the 3D pics. 3D images and videos really pop on the W1's rear monitor. With an HDMI cable and a 3D capable TV, you can view your 3D images and videos on the big screen too.

Show Notes

Fujifilm REAL 3D W1

- Truly point-and-shoot 3D photography and videography.

- Effectively we have two 10MP cameras jammed into one larger than average point-and-shoot body.

- Can take 2D still images from either lens.

- Overall camera specs and options are on par with Fujifilm's mid-range point and shoot cameras.

- Requires some trial and error to find the 3D "sweet spot" which seems to be between about four and eight feet from the camera.

- At this stage, the W1 is more a novelty than a viable alternative to a standard point-and-shoot camera.

- If you own a 3DTV and are starving for 3D content, the relatively high cost of the W1 maybe justifiable.

- The rear screen does a good job of displaying 3D images, but requires some getting used to.

- Anecdotal evidence suggests some people can see the 3D effect easily, some complain that it "bugs their eyes out."

- A 3D photo frame is also available from Fujifilm that uses the same glasses-free 3D as on the rear display of the W1.

- A new printing method from Fujifilm allows for 3D prints using a lenticular printing... but don't expect to see the machine at Costco or your local photomat any time in the near future.
