Identity theft: when your identity is used without your knowledge for some illegal purpose.

Phishing: stealing personal information using trickery through email and the Web.

Cloning: means making another card with identical information on the magnetic stripe.

- There are lockable mailboxes that handle magazines and small packages. They cost $200 or more.

- There are also "diamond-cut" shredders that shred into small diamond-shaped bits.

- Low Duty cutters will overheat if you use them too much.

- Shredders typically cost between $30 and $100+ US depending on daily shredding volume.

- Most US-based credit card companies offer a free online service called virtual credit cards, these credit card numbers are disposable, can be limited to a certain amount of money charged, expire within a specific period of time, and more.

- It's a good idea to check your credit reports frequently, if your in the United States check Equifax and Experian, in Canada check with Equifax and TransUnion, in the United Kingdom check with Experian, CallCredit, and Equifax, and if you are in Australia check Veda Advantage and Dub.
