If you're a BlackBerry loving, Facebook-addicted wannabe Android switcher, the
HTC Status
(AKA HTC ChaCha, AKA The Facebook Phone) seems custom made for you. It's got the old-school form factor with exposedQWERTY keyboard
you presumably love, the dedicatedFacebook status update
button you probably didn't know you needed and it runs Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) under the hood. It's not for everyone, but it's a surprisingly good overall experience and perhaps the perfect gateway device for BlackBerry switchers.Download this episode now

HTC Status
$49.99 with contract
$350 - $450 unlocked
The Status is a mid-range Android phone whose specs are perfect for its purpose. It's not a high-end gaming phone. Rather, it's for the text messaging, Facebooking, emailing and browsing set. Its tiny 2.6-inch screen in widescreen format is adequate and, if you're looking for a full QWERTY keyboard in a decidedly BlackBerry-esque form factor, it's a worthwhile tradeoff.
The biggest differentiating factor for the Status, AKA Facebook Phone, is the dedicated Facebook button on the lower-right of the keyboard. Hit this button from any homescreen and you're immediately taken in to post a Facebook status update. Long-press on the Facebook button and you'll be taken in to the check-in feature of Facebook. The button is also context-sensitive. If you're browsing a contact, press the Facebook button to post on his or her wall. If you're looking at a picture in your gallery, the button will let you upload the pic in a snap.
The HTC Status has front and rear cameras. On the front, we have a VGA cam for video chat or grainy self-portraiture, on the back we have a 5MP cam with flash for catching the action.
