Feature bloat is the bane of the less technical technophile. The Kobo eBook reader does not fall victim. It's a single-purpose device and in so being, it's easy to use, easy to hold, easy to afford and easy to like. It doesn't play MP3s, it doesn't have a touch screen, it's got but a few buttons and it can be a little slow in booting up, but it does it's job well.

Show Notes

Kobo eBook Reader
$149 - $199

- Very easy to use.

- Inexpensive relative to other eInk eBook readers: Kindle is $259, nook is $259, Sony PRS-300 is $200.

- Includes 100 pre-loaded public domain books.

- The Borders book store and Kobo sync software is likewise very easy to use. However, the bookstore can be frustrating if you're not looking for something very specific (i.e. a book title) or if your browsing doesn't fall under one of several broad categories.

- The device is very comfortable to hold and use.

- Weighs 221g and is 120mm x 184mm x 10mm.

- Battery lasts two weeks or 8,000 page turns.

- 1GB internal expandable via SD cards.

- Navigation via five-way d-pad.

- Possible to connect to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth to sync reading lists.
