Motorola CHARM video review

Navigation options abound in Motorola's CHARM handset. Use the Backtrack pad, use the capacitive touch screen or use the full QWERTY keyboard. It should be possible to

root the Motorola CHARM

as it's running Android 2.1 update 1 firmware. While the screen is of a dismally low resolution and the hardware is not the most powerful going, it's a good bet for Android devotees who want a traditional BlackBerry form factor.

Show Notes

Motorola CHARM
$270 - Carriers will offer for less with contract.

- Small, squarish form factor, reminiscent of older BlackBerry models.

- Multiple navigation options including Backtrack which takes a little getting used to but can actually prove valuable.

- Capacitive touch screen works but the screen itself is painfully low res.

- While actual processor and RAM specs are hard to come by, the handset feels underpowered when switching between applications and when running certain apps.

- MOTOBLUR is actually a valuable addition, though if you don't like it, you'll be hard pressed to turn it off.

- Many of the apps in the Android Market will work with no problem. However, anything designed for a leading edge Android handset, like the Nexus One, will stutter.
