Smaller, smarter and more portable. Powermat is going from gee whiz novelty to viable product category. The Powermat 2X Rechargeable Mat and the new case for iPhone 4 are proof positive. The technology has shrunk down to the point that you no longer have to choose between wireless charging and a small form factor, as with older cases in the Powermat line.

Powermat 2X Portable Mat with rechargeable battery
$129.99
- Includes one Universal Powercube that sits on the mat and can charge just about any phone, digital audio player or Bluetooth accessory with the small wire and eight interchangeable tips.
- Cases sold separately.
- 7800 mAh Battery back promises up to four full charges for most smartphones, more for less power-hungry feature phones.
- iPhone 4, for example, has a capacious 1420 mAh battery. By our math, that's about 5.5 charges. Real-world factors will of course vary. However, the four full charges sounds completely realistic.
- Has two recharging spots.
- Harder to get devices to connect; the magnetic pull present in earlier generation Powermats doesn't seem to work as well.
Powermat Receiver Case for iPhone 4
$39.99
- Much thinner than previous generation cases for iPhone.
- Bottom holes of the case aren't just dead space; they act as an acoustic amplifier for the iPhone's speakers.
- Micro B USB cable for syncing the iPhone 4 or for charging when away from the Powermat.
- Access to all ports and switches with the exception of the 30-pin connector.
