You may have heard of the RAW file format as it pertains to digital cameras. This file format is found mostly in digital SLR (single lens reflex) cameras and is sometimes called a "digital negative." It allows a lot more room for editing on your computer but comes with some trade-offs in file size and camera-side image processing. Tune in as the Lab Rats demystify RAW to find out if RAW is right for you.

Show Notes
RAW: An unprocessed photograph, similar to a lossless format in audio, where you won't lose any data.
The downside of RAW: Each photograph's file size tends to be large. Therefore it takes longer to write all the data to the memory card, hence a longer time between shooting.
Good low-cost SLRs: We give the nod to the Canon Digital Rebel and the Nikon D40.

GEEK ALERT: GIF is an older picture format. GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format.
Adobe Camera RAW: Used to change the image without destroying the original.
The "buffer": The memory inside the camera to hold information while processing the previous action or information.
