- Non-smart phone - works as your contact organizer and a traditional phone.
- Smart phone - a merge between PDA's and non-smart phones.
- Operating System choices:
- - Windows Mobile = version 6 launched in February 2007. [ex. Motorola Q]
- Palm - which runs on Teros. [ex. Palm Treo 680]
- Symbian - evolved from EPOC, the OS formerly found on handhelds from Psion. [ex. Nokia E-Series]
- BlackBerry - examples Blackberry 8800 and Blackberry 8100.
Telecommuncation Technology
- - CDMA:
- - Code Division Multiple Access
- Data plans:
- - CDMA doesn't use cards, so changing handsets means a tech support call with your cellular carrier or some allow customers to change out handsets by logging into the carriers website.
- The older GSM network is being replaced with the more US-friendly CDMA technology.
- 3G = third generation network.
