Room to room music and wall to wall sound; the Sonos S5 is a killer sound system that liberates your music from hard drive purgatory. The S5 has been around for a little while; we've looked at some Sonos products previously on this show. What's new here though is an Android app that lets you control the music coming out of your S5 from anywhere on your wireless network. You can control multiple S5s, sync music between rooms, pair two S5s into a stereo array, listen to Internet radio, podcasts and more. It's a slick and well designed system and the speaker unit kicks out crystal clear, room-filling sound.

Sonos S5 ZonePlayer Wireless Music System
$400 - $480
The Sonos S5 is, simply put, the easiest and best way we've found to get music playing across the network. The S5 can go loud (like very loud) without losing clarity. It's like the Bose of network music.
Go through a simple setup process, plug your S5 into a wired router and subsequent S5s will be able to go wireless. Or, if you don't want music in the room where your router resides (and you don't have in-wall Ethernet), grab a ZoneBridge ($130) to make the solution wireless.
In addition to liberating your iTunes and other downloaded music from PC purgatory, you can also listen to subscription and sign-up music services like Last.fm and Napster.
The S5 is also the best way we've found for listening to Internet radio away from the computer. Finally, one of our favorite features, you can listen to full archives of radio shows and podcasts that have made their feeds available.
The S5 is rather expensive at between $400 and approaching $500. However, the excellent sound quality, the multiple music options and the Internet radio / podcast option lets it take the place of many devices. If you've got a large collection of digital music, we feel good about recommending the S5 over a dedicated stereo system and all the add-ons that would be required in order to get your digital music streaming in stereo; it's a great solution for all but the most dedicated audiophiles.
