The Xperia Play, AKA the PlayStation phone is, as the name suggests, a dedicated gaming phone. It's got decent smartphone specs and a current version of Android, but its main claim to fame is the game. And it plays well. As a smartphone it's unremarkable though on par with mid-range Android offerings. Slide up the screen to reveal the PSP-style gamepad though and the Play begins to shine. Too bad there's little integration of the Play into the PlayStation universe.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play
$500 - $550 unlocked
$100 on a long-term contract
Sony Ericsson appears to have learned its lesson from the X10. Its newest phones ship with the newest version of Android, Gingerbread 2.3. That means the biggest strike against Sony Ericsson's Android offerings (in our opinion) has been corrected and we can start to focus on the hardware and overall experience.
The Xperia Play is the first "PlayStation Certified" phone. As a smartphone, its raw specs are decent but not spectacular:
854 x 480 pixel, 4-inch display
VGA front camera
5.1 megapixel rear camera
512 MB RAM (320 MB accessible)
1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon
SD video recording
The gamepad and dedicated gaming buttons work with most games you'll find in the Android Market. Just as well given that the official PlayStation store is looking a little sparse at this point. It's too bad that Google has been pulling classic gaming emulators from the Market; those would have been a perfect fit.
