Augmented reality:
AR games take center stage with the 3DS. When placed in range of the 3DS camera, AR cards unlock some fun and technologically interesting games... in 3D, of course. Each 3DS purchased comes with six AR cards and game developers can make their own too.

Mii Maker:
The 3DS can take a picture of a face and do some guesswork in order to create a pretty close match in Mii form.

StreetPass:
With the Nintendo 3DS in sleep mode, the handheld can still communicate with other 3DSs it passes in the street. StreetPass lets 3DS handhelds exchange Miis, game data and items or even do battle with even the briefest contact. This can be turned off if desired.

SpotPass:
When in range of a wireless hotspot, the 3DS can download game and 3D movie trailers, get system updates and software, even if the 3DS is in sleep mode. Like StreetPass, this option can be turned off if desired.
