Monday December 13, 2010
TomTom has built its reputation largely on creating super simple and easy to use in-car GPS receivers. The XL 350-TM is the "lifetime traffic and maps" version of TomTom's 350 line and comes with an extra $30 on the price tag. With this version, you'll be able to keep your GPS up to date with the latest map and traffic data for as long as you own it; a worthwhile investment assuming you connect your GPS to your computer every once in a while to take advantage of these benefits.

Show Notes

TomTom XL 350-TM
$170

- 4.3-inch widescreen is on the small side for a current gen in-car GPS device but is sufficient for most users.

- 1GB of internal memory for maps - no expandable storage.

- TomTom's EasyPort mount keeps the size down, allowing you to take the GPS device with you easily (to avoid it being stolen).

- Said mount can be finicky though and takes a little getting used to.

- 7 million points of interest (POI).

- Customizable skins available at the TomTom customization site.

- Advanced Lane Guidance feature (US only) helps to get you into the correct lane for highway exits.

- EasyMenu makes it simple to customize the menu screen for a less savvy user. For example, you could give this to an elderly parent with their address book pre-programmed.
