- In Windows Vista, put your Windows 7 disc in your DVD drive.

- Windows Vista should recognize it and will bring up a dialog window.

- Click Install Now.

- If the disk doesn't spin up by itself you can start it manually.

- Click Start and then Run.

- Type in X:\Setup.exe where X is the drive letter for the DVD drive your Windows 7 disc is in.

- Setup will copy temporary files.

- Then Setup will start.

- A dialog comes up and you're given the option to get updated files online, which is recommended.

- We recommend this also, but for the purpose of brevity we chose the other option in the tutorial.

- You can also check the box if you want to improve Windows Install. Click Next.

- Read the license agreement, check the box and click Next.

- Click Upgrade unless you want to do a clean install on this machine.

- You'll get a dialog telling you that Windows Vista Extras are no longer available. Click Next.

- Windows 7 now begins the process of copying files.
