Celeron = rock-bottom pricing on a single-core processor.
Pentium - a mainstream performance dual-core processor valued for a budget.
Core 2 Duo = small form-factor performance computers.
Core 2 Quad = robust performance computer at a slight increase in cost.
Core i5 = a desktop only quad-core processor with hyper-threading technology.

AMD I tend to find have there naming of CPU's all most good just some times the Althlon 64 ends up in laptops witch is stupid as it eats more battery than the Turion at the same clock speed.
I start with low end and up to top end (think this is right)
Athlon Neo (Notebooks only)
Semperon
Turion (Notebooks only)
Athlon 64
Phenom
Opteron (Workstation/Server)

While that is true. Consider, that as of today 5 Feb 2010, there are still at least 12 Pentium Desktop Processors that being still being fabricated and sold, per this Intel page link < http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyId=41877 >.
