The rise of the iPod (and iPhone) essentially killed the boombox and stereo system. Gone was the need for a CD player/cassette combo. Instead, an adapter was required to somehow get the music off of your iPod and onto your home theater. Thankfully, some industrious people decided to take the iPod experience and build a speaker system around it: hence, the iPod Dock.

SanDisk's latest, the Sansa Clip Zip, is a low-end digital audio player well suited to the Shuffle set. Priced competitively with the Shuffle (Apple's tiny DAP is the most logical comparison), the Clip Zip brings some features the Shuffle can't touch. Expandable storage via inexpensive microSD, radio play and voice recording. Oh yeah, and the 1.1-inch color screen. If you're looking for an inexpensive player for the gym, cycling or running, the Clip Zip is a solid bet. Budget a little extra for a pair of decent headphones though.

PureBeats, not to be confused with Beats by Dr. Dre, are relatively inexpensive in-ear phones that offer excellent sound quality at a relative bargain price. At about $50, these PureBeats feature the flat cable that is currently en vogue. They're capable phones and the addition of the in-line mic with single remote button is welcome.
