If Nokia is getting out of the Symbian smartphone game (in which, it must be pointed out, it's the only player) can someone explain the C6-01? This decidedly Symbian smartphone is quite slick but in light of Nokia CEO Stephen Elop's announcement that the company was leaving Symbian behind in its smartphone line, it feels a little like a last hurrah. If you'd never touched an iPhone or Android smartphone, you'd be blown away by this thing. Despite the excellent price tag relative to other smartphones, as it stands, the only real value here is nostalgic.

We waited a while to do so, but we finally got hands on with the Motorola Atrix. Better yet, it travelled with us for a week so we could really get an idea of how it functioned in the real world. A capable dual-core smartphone, the Motorola Atrix has a 4-inch "qHD" 960x540 pixel screen; close to the 960x640 resolution of Apple's Retina display, though on a bigger screen. Motorola calls it qHD or quarter HD.
While the Atrix on its own is a pretty sweet smartphone (shame about Motoblur running atop Android), it's also a new category of sorts. Next episode, we'll take a look at the Lapdock and HD Dock accessories that turn the smartphone into the CPU for a whole mobile and home computing experience called Webtop.

The HTC Incredible S (S710a) is an impressive smartphone running HTC Sense atop Android 2.2. While Sense is a great UI and really sets HTC's offerings apart from other Android smartphones, there are a few things missing. Most notably, an apparent way to set a lock code or pattern lock for your phone.
That issue aside, the Incredible S is a pretty beefy Android smartphone. The star of the show is a 4-inch touch screen and 8MP camera with 720p video recording. On the spec side, we get a 1GHz processor and 768MB of RAM to push things long.

Windows Phone 7, while decidedly less open than Android, follows a similar idea. Make the software that runs the smartphone, but not the smartphone itself. Let the smartphone makers worry about that part. HTC is widely recognized as making some of the best smartphone hardware going. The latest WP7 phone from HTC is the Arrive. It's the second WP7 phone to feature a full QWERTY keyboard. It features the signature HTC attention to detail.
