The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc is the thinnest Android phone we've seen to date. It's true to the Arc name as the back of the device is slightly convex. Aside from looking good, this also makes it easier to grab the phone when it's laying on its back on the desk. While it's decidedly svelte, it's not cutting edge on the specs side, though everything runs smoothly and we didn't notice any slow down with regular use.

The Xperia Play, AKA the PlayStation phone is, as the name suggests, a dedicated gaming phone. It's got decent smartphone specs and a current version of Android, but its main claim to fame is the game. And it plays well. As a smartphone it's unremarkable though on par with mid-range Android offerings. Slide up the screen to reveal the PSP-style gamepad though and the Play begins to shine. Too bad there's little integration of the Play into the PlayStation universe.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, it's fair to say, is the Sony and Ericsson partnership coming to fruition. Bravia technology in the display and video engine, a Sony image processing engine that apparently performs admirably in low light and an HDMI link that lets you display your phone's contents on the big screen HDTV. And not just on a Sony badged HDTV.

Our first chance to get hands on with Xperia Play. This smartphone runs Android 2.3, Gingerbread, and is a full-featured mobile. Slide the screen up though and you reveal a Sony Playstation style direction pad and the four Playstation buttons plus two analog control touch pads, perfect for gaming.

Andy gets a look at Sony Ericsson's latest Android smartphone running Gingerbread, Android 2.3, the Xperia Arc. The Sony Ericsson partnership pays off here. In addition to the 4.3-inch screen and incredibly svelte profile of the device, the Sony CyberShot and HandyCam still and video imaging expertise are built in to the device.

Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 mini is true to its name. We looked at the Xperia X10 in a previous episode of Gadget TV. The mini has the same look and feel as the Xperia X10 but it's decidedly, well, mini. Not a true Android smartphone in that there's no on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Think of the Xperia X10 mini as a feature phone with some of the benefits of Android... though you're using Android 1.6.

Sony Ericsson was a little late to the Android party. You wouldn't know it judging from the version of Android (Android 1.6) running on its new best-foot-forward smartphone, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 smartphone. A gorgeous phone with a massive screen and an very attractive form factor overall, we only wish it were a little further up the Android version number ladder. 2.0 would be nice, 2.1 would be nicer. An expedient update to 2.2, AKA Froyo, would make the X10 a real contender.

Sony Ericsson doesn't get the credit it deserves. Almost all the major carriers have at least a couple of Sony Ericsson phones to choose from and if you tire of the mobile phone status quo, Sony Ericsson phones deserve a look. The Sony Ericsson C-510 is an entry-level phone while the Xperia X1 is a smartphone running Windows Mobile.

If you're the type that captures all of life's moments using your

mobile phone camera

, take heed. While it won't rival even an entry-level dedicated point-and-shoot camera, the images you snap on the

8.1 megapixel Sony Ericsson C905

will blow your grainy postage stamp-sized pictures out of the water. With many of the camera features you'd expect to find on a point-and-shoot camera, including macro, a xenon flash, face detection and more. It also packs in some features that are hard to find in even the point-and-shoot camera world, including

geotagging

of photos so you can see where they were taken.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

and packs in a cool new feature in X-Panels. Check the video for the full run-down.
