A report from TechCrunch confirms an official Facebook iPad app has been discovered buried in the code of the latest Facebook iPhone app update. Not only did they discover hints of the app, they were even able to run and use it.
While a social network from Google has been rumored many times over the past year, the launch of Google+ came as a surprise to almost everyone. A select few journalists had seen a sneak peak last week, but today the service was rolled out to invited users only as a "field test." Luckily, we snagged an invite and took the service and the Android app for a spin. And we found one feature you'll love on the website and two that will make your experience on Android much, much better.
This is probably a coincidence, but Facebook's Android app update has a bug that continuously refreshes the news feed and drains the battery. This has absolutely nothing to do with Google announcing Google+ yesterday but the timing is, at the very least, humorous.
Beluga, one of many cross-platform group messaging apps that have come along in recent months to challenge RIM's BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) dominance, was acquired by Facebook today. As of now, Facebook intends to keep Beluga functioning as a stand-alone product. But, clearly the plan must be to integrate the messaging features from Beluga into the core Facebook apps, because currently, Facebook has the worst messaging client around.
According to Reuters, Skype is in early discussions with Google about a possible joint venture. My first guess would be cross-app compatibility with Google Talk, but the talks are apparently in the early phases and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook is potentially looking at just buying Skype outright.
