A closer look at Google Latitude

Google announced the release of another product called Latitude. Latitude can be installed on almost any mobile phone and is part of Google Maps. Once you activate it you can show your location to family, friends, and colleagues. You control your privacy and you can grant access to someone and then stop that access. A fascinating new development.

show notes

Show notes: - Visit the Google Latitude Home Page.

- Google Latitude is a new feature in the latest release of Google Maps.

- With Latitude activated on your mobile device your friends, family and colleagues can see where you are.

- You have control over Latitude and can decide to accept invitations from others, whether they can see your location, whether you use a fixed location and so on.

- Once linked via Latitude it's easy to send that person email, text messages, or call them.

- You can also get instant driving directions to their location.

- If you wish you can set your location to be a fixed place rather than an up-to-the-minute picture of your actual location.

- If you wish you can also "hide" from those who already have your permission to see you. Like your Aunt Bertha who happens to be in town.
