Show Notes
There are a number of tablets on the market right now and we're seeing more Android tablets released these days. Sony has just released their first such tablet, the Sony tablet S. As you might expect for a Sony tablet, it has the ability to integrate itself with your home theater system and also has e-reader capabilities.
The first thing you'll notice about this particular tablet is the wedge-shaped design. This is a more practical shape than you might think as it allows for easy, ergonomic one-handed holding for left- or right-handed users, in landscape or portrait.
It has a 9.4" screen that displays at 1280x800 resolution and there are cameras on the front and back. In the recess on the right side, you'll find the power button and volume buttons. There's also a reset button for just in case. The left side has a headphone jack and a compartment that houses a USB port and an SD card slot. There is also a pair of holes that allow for you to attach a hand strap. Speakers can be found on both sides of the device.
Along the thick edge of the device is an infrared sensor that helps when syncing the tablet with your home theater devices. We'll go into detail about that in a later episode. Along the front edge you'll find a proprietary port for connecting the power cable.
The Tablet S comes in both 16GB and 32GB versions, which vary in price depending on your region.
