Getting down with GarageBand

In this episode we introduce you to the
GarageBand interface
. We'll show youhow to start a project
and show you what each of the panes that you see are for and what some of the buttons do. In addition we show you different ways ofnavigating the GarageBand software

Show Notes
- If you're just starting GarageBand you'll see the New Project window.
- We choose Piano to give a tour of the interface.
- You will see a window with three sections. The left is the tracklist, the middle is the timeline and the right serves several functions depending on the button highlighted below.
- With the eye highlighted you can select beats. Some may not be available but may be made available with a software update.
- When the letter i is highlighted you will see the instrument on your currently selected track. You will also see Browse and Edit tabs. Browse is to select an instrument while edit is to change effects on that instrument.
- When the music note button is highlighted you'll see the media browser. From there you can preview any pre-made media on your computer including iMovie projects, songs from iTunes, etc.
- The lower part of the interface is known as the transport. The plus sign allows you to add tracks and the scissors button allows you to edit them.
- You will also find the typical control buttons at the bottom along with the time window. At the right are the master volume controls and meters.
