The Amazon Kindle 2 does much more than just display pages for you to read. As it's a smart device, you can get dictionary definitions of words, place virtual dog-ears on pages you want to refer back to, search for instances of a word or phrase, highlight text and write your own notes.

Advanced reading

To highlight a section

- When reading a book, move the thumbstick to bring up a cursor.

- Navigate to a section and click the thumbstick to enter highlighting mode.

- Move the thumbstick to select text.

- Click again to highlight that text.

- Press Back to exit highlight mode.

To remove a highlight

- When reading a book, move the thumbstick to bring up a cursor.

- Navigate to a highlighted section and click the thumbstick to enter highlighting mode.

- Move the thumbstick to select text and press the DEL key to remove the hightlight.

- Press Back to exit highlight mode.

To add a bookmark

- Hit the Menu key.

- Select Add a bookmark with the thumbstick and click to select.

- Reverse the process to delete a bookmark.

Go to commands

- Go to Beginning - Brings up the book's title page or cover.

- Go to Location - Brings up a search box to enter text, i.e. "Chapter 4."

- Sync to furthest page read - Takes into account reading done on the Kindle device, on the Kindle iPhone app or Kindle for PC to take you to the last page you read. Requires that the wireless connection be on.
