- First thing you do is download and install the Better Gmail 2 Firefox add-on which was created by Gina Trapani of Lifehacker.
- In Firefox click Tools, and then Options.
- Then click Add-ons and select Options for Better Gmail 2.
- On the General tab check the box that says Show Unread Message Count on FavIcon.
- Now, download and install Faviconize Tab which is also a Firefox add-on.
- Right-click on the tab containing Gmail and select FaviconizeTab.
- Cool huh? But if you close Firefox it'll disappear, so one more step.
- Download and install PermaTabs Mod
- Okay, when Firefox restarts open your Gmail.
- Right-click on the tab and select FaviconizeTab.
- While you're there click on Permanent Tab.
- Your Gmail will now be there each time you open Firefox.
- Even if you select Close All Tabs your special Gmail tab will stay open.
- You can also use this trick on other tabs, for example Google Reader... or perhaps butterscotch.com?
