how to root your Droid

and tell you

what rooting means

. There are many

benefits to rooting

your Droid, like

access to new software and ROMs

, but there are also some risks if the process isn't done correctly, which we outline in this episode.

- You must have an American Motorola Droid running firmware 2.1 that has not been rooted.

- Tap on Settings and then tap on About Phone.

- Under Firmware version, you should see "2.1-update1."

- Just to repeat, this process should only be done on a non-rooted Android phone that is naturally running firmware version 2.1.

- Follow this tutorial exactly and you should have no problems.
