In an Apple Announcement host by Steve Jobs, Apple revealed what it has planned for

iPhone OS 4.0

. There will be over 100 new features and many are ones that have been asked for by iPhone users. If you didn't have time to watch the full Engadget live blog from the event (maybe you, y'know, have a day job) Michael "Doc" Callahan gives the rundown.

- Multitasking is a big feature coming to iPhone OS 4.0.

- Ability to create folders automatically and name them.

- Unified email inbox.

- iBooks on your iPhone.

- Better data protection for enterprise users.

- Game Center

- iAd

- Wireless app distribution.

- Ability to change home screen wallpaper.

- Drag and drop, intelligent naming.

- With folders on the home screens as opposed to just app shortcuts, the practical app limit goes from 180 to over 2,000.

- Open email attachments and view threaded messages.

- VOIP will be fully supported.

- All running applications will appear in a dock where you can easily see and select them.

- Support for Bluetooth keyboards.

- Background location.

- 5X Zoom on camera.

- Geotagging, spell checker and the ability to send apps as gifts.

- Better battery life and improved privacy.

- Push notifications and local notifications.

- Task completion in the background, like uploading photos.

- Fast application switching.

- Available Summer 2010, and on iPad in the Fall.
