The

Boxee software

has been around for longer than the

Boxee hardware

. It's possible to

install Boxee onto Windows, Linux or Macintosh

machines, or even onto specialized devices like the AppleTV. It installs firmware over the other software and allows you to access all of the Boxee features.

If you want to turn one of your computers into a functional Boxee device, all you have to do is go to Boxee.net, download the software and follow the instructions according to what device you want to use. This is a great way to give an old piece of hardware a new purpose. Just make sure that it is capable of the proper output if you want to connect it to your television.
