We're all trying to be more conscious of our energy consumption. Fortunately, changing the power settings on your PC is simple and you should notice the affect quickly, like on your next power bill.

Show Notes

- Click on Start, then on Settings, then click on Control Panel.

- In Control Panel double-click on Power Options.

- Click on the Power Schemes tab and you can select from some default setting like Home/Office Desk, Max Battery, and so on.

- You can also adjust individual settings to better suit your needs.

- On the Advanced tab you can tell Windows to prompt you for a passwword when the computer resumes from standby.

- You can also indicate what you want to happen when the power button is pressed.

- The Hibernate tab deals with hibernating your PC and we'll deal with this in another tutorial

- The UPS tab deals with backup power supplies and we'll also deal with this in another tutorial.

- When you're done adjusting power settings click Apply then OK.
