Show Notes

The RAM is located in different locations in Mac towers depending on whether your tower has a G5 or an Intel processor.

On the G5, you can

access the RAM

by gently sliding out the fan that is in front of it. Once you have access to the RAM sticks, you can remove each one from the motherboard by flipping the tabs that keep them locked in place. To replace the RAM, just align the stick so that the tabs match the slot, push it carefully into place and then flip the locking tabs. Now replace the fan making sure that the fan is properly in place.

Mac towers with

Intel processors

have RAM situated on a daughterboard that can be removed easily. First, locate the daughterboard and carefully pull it out by holding the corners and pulling back. Once the daughterboard is removed, you can remove each individual RAM stick by unlocking it and carefully pulling it out. To add or replace RAM, just slide it in, lock it in place and replace the daughterboard.
