When you're online it's nice to be able to chat with family and friends. Windows Live Messenger makes it easy to do just that. Just find a friend, open a chat window and type up a quick "hello" message to start a conversation. Windows Live Messenger's program has a simple interface that makes chatting easy.

Download the latest version of Windows Live Messenger and follow along with our tutorial series

- In Windows Live Messenger find a friend and double-click on his or her user name.

- Type your message in the lower window of the chat box and when you press Enter your message is sent.

- You can put in "emoticons" (smileys) into the chat that express your emotions.

- You can change the chat font, font color and size.

- When you're happy with your font click OK.

- You can also select a background for the chat window.

- Windows Live Messenger lets you share files with your contact.
