If you want to change the notification sound that you hear on your
Android smartphone
when you get a new SMS message, you might have trouble finding the right settings menu. That's because the option isn't found in the main settings screen... but there is a way. Just follow the steps outlined in this tutorial in order tochange your SMS notification sound

- While you might expect to find text message notification sound settings under the Sounds portion of Settings, such is not the case. You can change notification sounds here, but not from text messages.
- Instead, you'll have to go to your Messaging application. Once there, you'll need to hit the menu key and go to Settings. Now scroll to the bottom for notification options.
- Here, you can uncheck the box next to Notifications to disable text message notifications.
- Tap Select ringtone if you want to change the SMS notification sound. You'll also be able to select from multiple sources if those are available.
- Tap a ringtone to hear a preview of it. We recommend something high pitched (but not too annoying) so that you don't miss any important messages.
