Compressing photos with WinZip

Photos can be very large files and sending large files via email can be a problem. One way to reduce the size of your photos is to squeeze or compress them with WinZip. It makes the files smaller, puts them all into a handy ZIP file package and allows you to deliver them to friends and familiy without having your email "bounce back" and without overloading the recipient's inbox or internet connection.

show notes

- If you don't already have it on your computer download the latest version of WinZip.

- Run the program.

- Click New, then give your soon to be ZIP file an identifiable name.

- In the dialog that opens navigate to the photos you want to include in your compressed file.

- Select a group of photos by holding down the SHIFT key and clicking or select random photos by holding down the CTRL key and clicking.

- Click Add and the ZIP file will be created. Depending on the level of compression (how much you're "squeezing" the fies) and how many pictures you selected, this may take a minute.

- When compression is finished, click OK and you're ready to email or archive your new ZIP folder.
