How do I use a Sonos
Friday August 19, 2011
There are a number of ways to control your Sonos system. The most obvious is by using a computer, either a desktop or laptop, but there is also a Sonos brand controller. Much more affordable, however, is a mobile app that you can download for your iPhone or iPad through iTunes or to your Android device over the Android Market.

While you can control the Sonos system from your computer, that's not always convenient. You can also buy a Sonos Controller, which works great but can be an expensive option. A much more affordable idea is to get a mobile application for your iPhone, iPad or Android device.
Either go to iTunes or the Android Market and run a search for the Sonos Controller App. In both cases, the app is free. Once the app is installed, you should start it up. When the app starts, it will ask you to set up your Sonos system but fortunately, we've already done that. Ensure that your device of choice is connected to the same network as your Sonos system and skip to the next step.
Follow the instructions on screen and connect to one of your Sonos devices. You'll be able to see what music is playing and queued and make whatever changes you want. If your music is stored on network attached storage (NAS), you won't even need to have your computer on to access your library.
