deactivate your Facebook account
. Deactivation is temporary and gives you the option to take a breather from Facebook without actuallydeleting your profile

UPDATE: Facebook has begun rolling out new and simplified privacy settings for some users. Many of the tips in this series still directly apply however.
- If you're worried that Facebook is slowly consuming your life, you might start thinking about deleting your account.
- An alternative to account deletion is to deactivate your account.
- Click on Settings.
- Now click on Account Settings.
- You can click on deactivate account at the bottom.
- You will be asked to give a reason, then you can choose to opt out of Facebook emails as well.
- If you do choose to deactivate, you will be able to reactivate your account at a later date if you want.
