Show Notes

- Phishing is used to steal you personal information by tricking you into believing you've received an email from a financial institution and getting you to login to a phoney replica of that Web site.

- Phishing emails and Web sites can be VERY convincing.

- Some of the well-known Phishing scams have involved sites like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, PayPal, and many more.

- You can read about phishing on Wikipedia.

- A trick use in every phishing scam is putting a link to the fake site in the email. While the link looks real it actually takes you someplace else that looks like a company you trust.

- You can use McAfee Site Advisor which you can get from for free. It's available for Firefox and Internet Explorer

- In Internet Explorer you have built-in Phishing protection which you can check by clicking on Tools and then Phishing Filter.

- Be wary of things you receive in email and never click on links to Web sites that are in the email. If you think the email may be real, navigate to the Web site on your own to be sure.
