Pt. 7 of 10 | 1:28 |

Beginner's Guide to Installing Ubuntu

Tuesday September 28, 2010
If you like

using Ubuntu

but want to have the option of using your other operating system, you can always

create a dual boot system

. This will involve

partitioning your hard drive

and you should probably back up your data, but once the process is complete, you'll be able to

boot into Ubuntu

or your other OS whenever you want.

Download Ubuntu 64-bit

- Before creating a dual boot system, be sure to backup all data.

- A couple of backup programs are Image for Windows and SyncBack.

- Some users like to partition for themselves even though Ubuntu will do it for you.

- If you want to partition yourself, some good programs to look at include EASEUS Partition Manager Home Edition and Cute Partition Manager.

- Ubuntu will install and when it completes it will reboot.

- At boot time, you now have the option of Windows or Ubuntu.

- You can use the LiveCD or DVD disc we created earlier to boot.

- Select Install Ubuntu and follow the prompts.

- When the install is finished and the machine reboots, you'll have the option of going into Windows or Ubuntu.
